I appear to be on some kind of #FidgetToy Quest where I try to find the perfect fidget toy for my hands. Here is my progress so far.
Things that seem to work well as fidget toys: Pens
Sunglasses
Coasters
Lanyards
Hair
Things that do not seem to work well as fidget toys: Fidget toys
@lotographia part of the fun is that the object has utility that can be discovered. Clicky clicky is a surface level understanding of what fidgeting is doing, IMO.
@lotographia try rubics cubes and tech decks and, I dunno, small lego builds, is what I’m saying.
@dznz @lotographia conversely i like things that have weight or inertia, like spinning tops, or things that don't so much have new utility as new forms of motion (like rotating the inkwell inside a pen)
@lotographia the amount of pens I have fuxked up by incessant clicking and screwing /unscrewing the barrel. So many. Expensive ones too, none are immune.
@lotographia My preferred fidgets are stones, knitting, and 'Cats VS Pickles' mini beanies (though these make a noise)
Official fidget toys? Yeah not so much...
@lotographia get you one of these bad boys, and a pencil, and just SPIN THAT THING AS FAST AS IT WILL GOOOOO
spend your entire 4th form maths year trying to optimise the spin for the least input
which inner angle gives the most satisfying whirrr on the angular pencil
how long can you maintain the spin on the least stable vertex
wonder why the movement of the tip cannot be harnessed to generate limitless electrical power
turn to WHAT page of the textbook? i wasn’t listening
@lotographia do you have your pens ordered by how high they spring launch from the table or how balanced they are for snap-spinning from a pen-grip
@ptoothfish @lotographia that's all good and fun until it launches off the end and decapitates poor Timmy in the front row.
