This morning I woke up, got out of my AI bed, went into my AI kitchen, and made some AI tea using my AI kettle and drank it out of my AI mug. I looked out the AI window at the AI city, then used my AI phone to take an AI photo.
When everything is “AI”, nothing is. It’s just a language model. A fancier autocorrect. They’ve been around since the 70s. These people are bullshitting you so they can make money, which is ALSO a very old technology, and big dumb tech companies falling for it and turning their products inside out to buy it is a healthy clue about the quality of their leadership.
@rmi In what sense have today's language models "been around since the 70s"? Attention _maybe_ can be said to go back to the mid-90s, word embeddings were invented in 03, and the transformer in 2017. Dismissing modern architectures as if they are the same as frames and Horn clauses seems counter-productive to me.
@rmi Yeah, it sort of becomes meaningless when everything gets called ‘AI’ even though it’s really just a ML model with a very narrow purpose, and very little accountability, or just basic statistical analysis done by an algorithm.
