I feel like this tree hasn’t had a great day.

My day started with an 8am meeting and really hasn’t improved since. Maybe nap the rest of the day? The 1:1s I have this afternoon will understand surely.

Slack status updated, PagerDuty schedules updated to call someone else, laptop shut down, next day of work is January 19th, 2022.

So what exactly do people do when not working? (I kid, I have both things to do and intend to spend time doing nothing as well)

Today and tomorrow of work, then off until January 19th.

My stress levels should be lower now, right? Right?

6 monthly self assessment time at work.

Things I do well: write policies and answer questions in a way that satisfies PCI-DSS auditors.

Things I need to do better: be less stressed. Have less desire to scream. Take more naps.

(I struggle with not being either self deprecating or not taking it seriously.)

I made my own Jira project for all my work tasks. The ones that don’t go in the team project/board.

In the last team sprint I completed 34 things on my board. I still have 44 tasks.

Yesterday I jokingly said I might need to start doing a backlog grooming session for myself.

Being woken up by a PagerDuty alarm + monitoring another incident + 4 hours of leave that need to be taken before the 3rd = I could take the whole day off today.

Except I need to interview a candidate at 1pm (excited about that actually) and prep work for a new team member in the US so they have what they need for tomorrow.

Sigh. (I’m not complaining, I knowingly signed up for this)

😡 at couriers, this time not bothering to pick something up (or even reschedule, so yay freedom but boo can’t leave the house until they collect it), which means I’m now unlikely to get a trade in paid before I have to pay the credit card bill for the new thing, which is annoying.

Hello from a disgruntled person who didn’t get a new phone because of server errors but who did get snacks and an iPad mini so actually today was pretty good anyway.

I’ve been awake since 3:45am (hooray production incident), this does not make dealing with a frustrating and disappointing iPhone ordering process easy to deal with. Thanks brain.

Wrapped up the last of my AV things for PyCon AU 2021, time to put this stuff back into work mode for tomorrow.
